My Naval Service

massage, rehab, painI am a retired Naval Officer with over 22 years of service to the U. S. Navy specializing in Information Technology.  While in the military, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (University of Florida, 1991), a Master of Science degree in Systems Management (Florida Institute of Technology, 1995), and another Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management (Naval Postgraduate School, 2001).  I worked at a variety of staff tours on the east and west coasts.  My favorite tours were working with VADM John D. Bulkeley in Washington, DC as a part of the Board of Inspection and Survey staff when I was enlisted, working in Norfolk at USACOM as a junior officer as a Systems Officer of a variety of networks, and being onboard the USS CORONADO on the ship’s crew as the ADP Officer and on the Commander, Third Fleet Staff, as the J6 Fleet Information Systems Officer as a mid-grade officer.  Fair winds and following seas!

My Holistic Health Background

I have been working in the holistic health industry since October 2007. I have been passionate about natural health all my life even as a child. My parents always enjoyed experiencing new therapies and practices so we could live a quality life of happiness, joy, and ease from learning to do Transcendental Meditation (TM) when I was 10 years to experiencing the different remedies from Edgar Cayce throughout my childhood to even now as an adult.

Since the late 1980s, I’ve been interested in and receiving hands-on therapies.  My first massage was in Japan and my practitioner used a mix of circulatory massage with Thai-like stretches.  I really enjoyed it, but it did not quite hook me into receiving massage therapy sessions as preventative therapy.  In 1996 while training to run a marathon for the Leukemia Society, I was diagnosed with a severe stress fracture in my right hip.  It was excruciating pain along with a high-stress job that affected my jaws (lots of pain, clicking, etc.).  I was referred to a practitioner who did the Rolf Method.  After my Rolfing 10-series of sessions were completed in 1997 (to where I was 1.5″ taller, released practically all of my jaw pain, and corrected my walking and running gaits), I still today continue to receive hands-on treatments.

After I retired from the U. S. Navy in 2005, I thought I would pursue being a National Park Ranger.  Instead, a friend and I decided to get massages at a massage school student clinic in Pacific Beach (San Diego), CA.  After that massage session, I went to the school’s administrative office and asked if they take GI Bill monies.  They did, and I started my journey in the fall of 2005 to become a Holistic Health Practitioner with a specialty in Massage Therapy, which I did earn in 2007.  In my coursework, I focused my studies on rehabilitative therapies, specifically traditional Thai Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Structural Integration, and the Rossiter System.  In 2016, I became a Certified Personal Trainer in order to be able to prescribe exercises so clients could maintain what they gained in my massage sessions.  Also by 2018, I completed the Structural Energetic Therapy (SET) training, including the cranial and facial bone releases necessary to help people heal better and faster with their bodies by releasing the core distortion in the cranium bones that we are all born with.  Today, I primarily use SET with clients since it has made remarkable changes/improvements for me and my clients.

Through my rehabilitative therapy sessions, I was already and naturally coaching clients, providing them a listening, of how they can meet their life, personal and professional, goals during their appointments.  Then during the COVID 2020 pandemic, I obtained a certification as a Holistic Health Coach in 2021, so that I could formally coach people to meet their life, health, and wellness goals.

Since being on this journey in the holistic health industry and receiving the certifications that I have, I titled myself a Holistic Health Practitioner and a Rehabilitation Specialist specializing in Cranial/Structural rehabilitation therapies, correctional and performance enhancing exercises, and health-life coaching.  I am constantly learning through many courses, workshops, and seminars.  I am always asking “how can I and others live a more fulfilling life, live a life of joy, without (or with minimal) physical, mental, and emotional impediments?”.  The blend of services I offer has helped me in my journey, so I hope I could help other people in their journeys, too.

I am looking forward to helping people get through their barriers so they can live the life they want, experience their bucket list items, and fully experience the dreams they envisioned themselves doing!
